I’m a creature of habit. I wish I could be one of those people who fly by the seat of their pants and thrive in chaos but honestly, my bread and butter is a good routine and organization. My success level during the week is directly related to how I set myself up on Sundays. These are my top 5 non-negotiable tasks I complete every Sunday.
- Laundry:
There is nothing I enjoy more than throwing a load of laundry in the wash first thing on Sunday morning and then making breakfast. There are a few loads that need to be done, but I make the most of that time and multitask. One of the things I do while my laundry is in the washer/dryer besides enjoy my breakfast and coffee, is make a shopping list and plan my meals for the week. I’ve talked about my shopping list template in a previous post (link to my Etsy template here). It really does take some stress away from my week.
- Shopping:
I head to the grocery store with all my lists, digital coupons, and meal plans in mind. I still make visits to the grocery store during the week to pick up items or Cheep Chicken Monday from Jewel occasionally, but most of my food shopping for the week is done on Sunday. To save money, I will sometimes complete a free pick-up order while I’m waiting for the laundry to finish. That way, I’m not influenced to buy more than I need to while walking down the aisles and it’s saved me a lot of money. I’m fortunate enough to live in a town where this service is free and available. Check your local grocery store to see if this is something they offer.
- Cleaning:
I have three cleaning rules for my Sunday routine.
- The bathroom needs to be spotless
- Every dirty dish needs to be washed and put away before bedtime
- The floors need to be swept and mopped.
Every rule has its place, and it guaranteed to make life easier on Monday morning. Think about it. Would you rather wake up to a clean fresh house on Monday morning or have that mess looming over you all day just waiting for you to clean when you get home after work. I like to think of it as not bringing last week’s mess into the new week.
- Everything Shower:
I am a greasy hair girly and I’m not a fan of dry shampoo, so I shower and wash my hair every day. Before you come at me, I tried “training” my hair during lockdown. She wasn’t having it. Let’s normalize health trends not working for everyone. Without going into great detail about my everything shower, just know that exfoliating, shaving, plucking, and moisturizing is involved. The everything shower is not one size fits all. Everyone’s routine is going to look different and that’s beautiful. It’s more about doing what makes you feel good and ready for the week ahead that most important.
- Relaxation Time:
After I’m done with my tasks, I’m ready for some relaxation time. Sometimes that includes watching a movie or show (Tracker is back on and its chef kiss so far). Other times it’s reading a book or watching TikToks. Whatever it is, my hard work has earned me a little relaxation time to help set me at ease before heading into the chaos that is the new week.
Let me know if you start or have a reset routine that you’d like to share. I’d love to hear all about it!
